I fell in love with racing since my Dad and Uncle were bookmakers in Lancashire in the 70’s. I remember being about 10 and having my ears tuned to the blower system blasting out from the shop below.

Ever since then my love of the sport has just grown and grown and I’m as much in love with the sport now as I was as a youngster. I worked in a bookmakers after leaving school but lasted six months as I found I liked it much more on the other side of the counter.

Since then I’ve been a full-time professional gambler and have hopefully improved over the years. My family have owned horses now for years (currently with Jonjo O’Neill) and after speaking with many trainers over a long time I’ve concluded they might know how to train but, as form students go, they leave a lot to be desired – the players don’t always make the best managers theory.

Therefore just over a year ago I decided to buy my first horse from the ‘horses in training’ sales and acquired the now 81 rated C’est No Mour for the bargain price of 13,000 guineas.

He recently ran 4th at Ascot and has won over £31,000 prize money, and though I no longer own him, I’m still very proud of that purchase. The form book is excellent but watching, I think, is even more critical – as is instinct and judgement which just can’t be taught.

I was excited when the betting exchanges came along and did well for many years before becoming one of the original Betfair 500 who were hit with the premium charge, where I had to pay 40% of my winnings back to the company. Not only was this not viable, but wrong in my opinion and so I moved back to betting with the bookmakers.

After having numerous accounts closed and being restricted to s.p betting on the high street, I now find it very difficult to place bets; hence why I have now starting tipping horses for a living.

I select very few horses at short odds as my results page will show, so my strike rate obviously won’t be massive, but my return on investment suggests I’m going about things the right way.
